6 Days Great Migration Kenya No wildlife event on Earth rivals East Africa’s Great Migration for sheer drama. Every year, enormous herds of wildebeest and Zebra, 2 million strong, make a grand circuit across the plains from the Serengeti into Kenya’s Maasai Mara and back, following the new grass that sprouts with the seasonal rains. A host of predators, including the Mara’s abundant lions, follows in pursuit, ensuring their own survival by targeting weaker members of the herds. Along with the wonder of the migration, Kenya offers photographers iconic images of Africa: giraffes browsing in lacy acacia trees, elephants trundling over the savanna against the backdrop of snowcapped Mount Kenya, proud Maasai bedecked in traditional beadwork, and much more.

6 Days Great Migration Kenya Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrival – Nairobi Airport, Kenya
Our Great Migration Safari in Kenya begins in Nairobi, with a transfer from the airport to our boutique hotel in the quiet residential suburb of Karen on the outskirts of the city. This area at the foot of the Ngong Hills is named for Danish author Karen Blixen, also known by her pen name Isak Dinesen, who wrote the famous memoir Out of Africa chronicling her life on a Kenyan coffee plantation in the early 20th century. This evening, enjoy a welcome dinner with our Tour Leader and a preview of our safari adventures ahead.
Overnight: Karen Blixen Coffee Garden & Cottages
Meal plan: Dinner
Days 2: Transfer – Masai Mara National Reserve
Our guide/driver will pick you up from your hotel and drive through the Great Rift Valley to the Masai Mara National Reserve. You will stop at the Great Rift Valley viewing point to take photos of the historical escarpment. Masai Mara is part of the Serengeti vast plains famously known for its spectacular great wildebeest migration and is home to the Big Five: lion, elephant, leopard, buffalo, and rhino. You will have an introductory game drive on this day. This prepares you for the full-day game drive on the next day. Later, you’ll drive back to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Governors’ Camp is under canvas with all of the comforts of a luxury hotel. Some of the 25 tents line the riverbank, tucked into the forest they enjoy uninterrupted views over the Mara River, others have views across the sweeping plains of the Masai Mara, surrounded by all the natural wonders of the Maasai Mara ecosystem without the crowds. The conservancy model has been a boon to the region’s legendary wildlife, creating buffer zones and protecting migration corridors while providing economic benefits to local landowners through responsible safari tourism.

Day 3: Full-Day Game drives – Masai Mara National Reserve
After breakfast, you’ll leave for a full-day game drive. The amazing wildlife experience continues. On the plains are large herds of herbivores grazing, cheetahs, and leopards hiding in their locations. Masai Mara is the heart of Kenyan tourism with large species of mammals, amphibians, reptiles, and over 400 bird species recorded on the reserve. Nowhere in Africa is wildlife more abundant, and it is for this reason a visitor hardly misses to see the Big Five (buffalo, elephant, leopard, lion, and rhino). Your picnic lunch will be at the Mara River migration point. After your picnic lunch, you will have some rest before embarking on your late afternoon game drive until late in the evening. You will later drive back to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

The fabulous sunrise flight lasts approximately one hour depending on weather conditions. On landing, sit down to a delicious bush breakfast, freshly cooked on balloon burners in the middle of the Mara plains. Toast your return to Mother Earth together with your pilot over a glass of sparkling wine. You will have an en-route game drive on your way back to the camp for a hot lunch. After lunch, you will visit the Masai village where you will meet and interact with the local Masai people. Enjoy the breathtaking Masai dances and drama and many more. The Masai Mara is world-renowned for its large abundance of wildlife estimated to be more than 3 million individuals and the highest concentration of big predators including lions, cheetahs, leopards, hyenas, jackals, and serval cats. This is one of the main reasons why doing the 4-day safari is justified. You will wake up for an early morning game drive.
