Its fall in transition between East African savannah and central African forest and its compact area of 241,000km2 it contains the best of opposing biomes. Rainforest bristling with central African birds and African primates adjoining the savannah inhabited by big game favorites. Add the snow peak of the continent highest mountain range, an island-studded expanse of its largest lake the turbulent headwater of the world longest river and the vast trough of the Albertine Rift Valley, not to mention particular friendly and hospital people, and the result is a unique varied safari in Africa.  

What makes safari to Africa unique – Creation of the national parks

All the national parks of Uganda were created from wildlife reserves, which were formed in the 1920s. in 1952, 2 national parks were upgraded to create the Murchison Falls and Queen Elizabeth national park which formerly was called Rwenzori wildlife reserves are commonly known as the land of Basongora cattle keeper grazing ground. Kidepo later added in 1962 and Lake Mburo national park in 1983. These parks all protected big game in natural habitats. In the 90s the full range of Uganda biodiversity was recognized when 6 forest reserves – Kibale, semi like, Bwindi, Rwenzori, Mt Elgon, and Mgahinga were re-designated as a national park. Today wildlife area system comprises ten national park and 12 wildlife reserves which are managed by the Uganda Wildlife Authority.

Lion in Africa

A wide range of habitats, forest, woodland, savannah, mountains, lakes, rivers, and wetlands support a remarkable variety of wildlife, mammals that include 18 African primates, among them, are mountain Gorilla, and a chimpanzee with more of great big game species such as elephant, buffalo, leopard, and lion. Zebra and giraffe are all over the region, a bewildering number of birds are contained within a 1000+ list that includes many rare endemic species at the eastern limit of their ranges. The megafauna is not limited to grasslands and forests. Nile perch weighing over 100kg inhabit the Nile in Murchison falls National Park while high altitude vegetation in the mountain parks includes gigantic forms of familiar garden ornamentals such as groundsel, heather, and lobelia.

Geographical Location:

Uganda lies in the upper hand of the Nile basin between the two branches of the East rift valley. Its most memorable landscape is found along the western and eastern border where happily for visitors most of the national park and wildlife are also found. The western Congo border follows the western Albertine rift valley where the equatorial snow peaks of the 5100 MASL. Rwenzori mountain the tower above lake Edward (913m) and Lake Albert at (612m). Further interest is provided by Virunga Volcanoes, the forested hills of Bwindi impenetrable and the Katwe and Ndali volcanic crater lakes. At the northern limit of the rift, the races Nile races down the 80km of rapids before plunging down over the Murchison Falls.
