Congo Gorilla Trekking | Volcanic Hike
Safari in Congo means nothing without Gorilla Trekking and Nyiragongo Volcanic Hikes. Virunga National Park is one of the best Natural habitats with great diversity in Africa. This park also has two active volcanoes.
Congo Gorilla was first initiated to protect the endangered Mountain Gorillas which are found within the Virunga ranges in Uganda, Rwanda, and DRC. In 1961 when Congo had got her independence the park deteriorated just like the country and it was not until the early 70s when the president picked interest in conservation that the park was revived and renamed Virunga National Park.
Safari in Congo
The park covers 7800 sq. km from Virunga Mountains in the South up to the Rwenzori in the North. The park is well known for its biodiversities like a bird, mammal, and reptile concentration more than any other protected area in Africa. Some of the notabilities include Chimpanzees, mountain gorillas, giraffes, buffaloes, and gorillas.
Recent mountain gorillas have been the major attraction in this park given the fact that this is among the few parks in the area with these endangered gorillas. People prefer to track the Congo gorillas because the cost is as low as $450 and the park is less congested compared to other Gorilla Trekking sectors like Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda, and Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in Uganda.
